Drones have been in use in many police forces around the world and in Europe, for a number of years, for monitoring demonstrations, railway installations and road traffic, recording accidents and crime scenes, tracking and identifying hooligans and tracking down cannabis plantations.
The foreseeable rapidly multiplying use of drones by curious citizens and criminals – IS terrorists are using bomb-throwing drones in Iraq and Syria – has already helped companies that develop and sell drone defence methods to increase sales.
The successful use of eagles against drones, particularly in the Netherlands, could soon be eclipsed by a method projected in the USA: semi-autonomous, armed drones shoot down enemy drones. It is then not far to use them against ground targets…
The seminar lists and evaluates the legal basis and restrictions and uses case studies to discuss difficult operational situations with their legal implications.
