Miners’ Route

Covered in working clothes and armed with mining equipment, the visitors to the Wieliczka mine stop feeling like tourists as soon as they descend into the darkness by the oldest existing mine shaft, the Regis. Each of them is attributed a mining profession and tasks by the guide, known at the mine as the chargeman, who will carefully evaluate their execution. In this manner, visitors become novice miners (slepry) and start to learn the ropes of this demanding profession guided by the light of their mining lamps.
The trail, located far off the busy Tourist Route, allows the visitors to discover the inner workings of the mine. On their own, they measure the concentration of methane, dig and transport salt, set the path and explore unknown chambers. They also experience the daily routine of underground life and the secrets of mining traditions and rituals, and experience first-hand the real taste of miners’ work.
Individual tours set off at the Regis shaft, located in the centre of Wieliczka, at set visiting hours.
